Date: Saturday, November 8, 2008 Location: FILDERHALLE Leinfelden, Bahnhofstraße 61, 70771 Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany Info about the hall: The large banquet room of the Conference and Events Center (Kongress- und Veranstaltungszentrum) has a stage, a gallery, and a seating capacity of over 1000. The FILDERHALLE restaurant will offer gourmet cuisine for the most discriminating tastes. There will be excellent beard-styling facilities for the contestants. Ample parking is available at the hall. For further information: www.filderhalle.de Program: The European Beard and Moustache Championships will feature competition in 17 categories according to the rules adopted by the Association of German Beard Clubs (VDB). There will be an entertaining program with the theme Beard and Culture. The event will begin with pre-judging at 11:00 a.m. Opening cermonies will take place at 1:00 p.m. The entrance fee for contestants is 25 euros. Directions: Car: Leinfelden-Echterdingen is conveniently located next to the autobahn A 8. Coming from Munich take exit 52a/52b, LE-Leinfelden. Coming from Karlsruhe take exit 52, LE-Leinfelden. After exiting the Autobahn, proceed toward Leinfelden, following the signs for the FILDERHALLE. Addtional signs will be posted. Distance from Stuttgart 12 kilometers (20 minutes). Rail: ICE- and IC-trains serve the main station (Hauptbahnhof) in Stuttgart. From there, travel by commuter rail (S-Bahn) line S2 toward the airport (Flughafen) or line S3 toward Filderstadt to Leinfelden. Travel time from Stuttgart, 22 minutes. Alternatively take the underground/subway line U5 to the end station Leinfelden. Travel time from Stuttgart 25 Minutes. The commuter rail and underground station is just 200 meters from the FILDERHALLE. Air: From the Stuttgart Airport take any commuter train (S-Bahn -- either line S2 toward Schorndorf or S3 toward Backnang) 6 minutes to the Leinfelden station. Event schedule for the European Beard and Moustache Championships 2008 Fri., 7. November 2008, We will organize a welcoming party and additional activities for all contestants and guests. Sat., 8. November 2008 FILDERHALLE Leinfelden 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Registration and pre-judging by the VDB pre-judges. 2:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies and presentation of beard clubs. 2:30 p.m. Moustache competition 4:00 p.m. Partial beard competition 5:00 p.m. Full beard competiton 7:30 p.m. Show and cultural program with awards presentation Open End During and after the competition you will be entertained by the music of the Uhlberg-Duo. We will put a great show and cultural program together for you. All times are subject to change for organizational reasons.
All contestants must attend final registration and pre-judging by the VDB between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Contestants who do not attend pre-judging will not be permitted to compete! |

The category descriptions and illustrations can be found here. The competition will take place in the order set forth above. In honor of Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin whom we have named "Historical Beard," we will begin with the imperial moustache category. The European Beard and Moustache Championships is the closing event of "the Dream of Flight" celebration taking place in Leinfelden-Echterdingen in 2008. |
